Bullet Pulley Review: The Best Garage Gym Cable System?
If you train in a home or garage gym and miss having access to cable exercises, the Bullet Pulley might be exactly what you need. I've been using it for almost a year now, and recently got to test out the full 10-in-1 kit, so in this review, I’ll break down what it is, how it works, pros and cons, and whether it’s worth it.
What Is the Bullet Pulley?
The Bullet Pulley is a portable cable pulley system made specifically for home gyms and garage gym setups. It allows you to perform a wide range of cable-based movements without having to buy a full cable machine, which can cost anywhere from $800 to $2,000 and take up a ton of space.
Its universal fit means it works with virtually any power rack, whether it's a 2x2 or 3x3 frame with 5/8" or 1" holes. The setup uses a unique V-shape base and conical nut that keeps it securely in place during training.
What Comes in the Box?
The Bullet Pulley is available as a single pulley, double pulley, or the full 10-in-1 kit (which I’m using in this review). In the kit, you get:
Bullet Pulleys
Multiple steel cables (in two different lengths)
High pulleys with straps
Loading pin
Weight straps
Carabiners
Anchor pad (for lat pulldowns)
Cool stickers!
They’ve also upgraded the cable coating to a bright red, which improves its aesthetic.
How It Works
To use the Bullet Pulley, you’ll need a power rack with a pull-up bar. You attach the pulley to the upright of the rack, and loop the high pulley around the pull-up bar using the included strap. You can easily adjust the positioning depending on the height of your rack and the movement you're doing.
There are two cable lengths included — a 73-inch and a 140-inch, which cover most rack setups. If needed, you can also buy different cable lengths or even cut your own Dacron rope for a custom fit.
Attach a loading pin or use the included weight straps with plates, dumbbells, or kettlebells. Then hook up your favorite handles or attachments, and you’re ready to train.
Exercises You Can Do
The Bullet Pulley supports three main configurations:
1. High Pulley Only
Great for:
Tricep Pushdowns
Face Pulls
Lat Pulldowns
Cable Crunches
Woodchops
The 10-in-1 kit also includes an Anchor Pad that provides counterforce for more controlled lat pulldowns.
2. High + Low Pulley Setup
Attach the high pulley to the top of your rack and the Bullet Pulley to the bottom upright for more versatility. This setup lets you do:
Seated Rows
Bicep Curls
Lateral Raises
Overhead Triceps Extensions
Glute Kickbacks
Hamstring Curls
Hip Abductions
Personally, my favorite use is for seated cable rows, one of the movements I missed most since switching to garage gym training. It allows me to train my back without loading my lower spine with bent-over rows.
3. Dual Pulley Setup
With two high pulleys or two low pulleys, you can perform:
High Cable Flyes
Shoulder Raises (T's and Y’s)
Low Chest Flyes
Lat Pulls
High Rows
The setup takes a few extra minutes, but the versatility is hard to beat for a compact system.
Pros and Cons
✅ Pros:
Space-saving: No need for a full cable machine
Cost-effective: Much cheaper than commercial alternatives
Versatile: Tons of exercises in a small footprint
Solid build: Strong cables, secure fit, and smooth motion
❌ Cons:
Setup time: Takes a few minutes to get started, especially if switching between exercises
Cable sizing: The Included lengths might not fit every rack height perfectly (but easily fixable)
Not instant: Unlike fixed machines, expect 2–5 minutes to set up before training
Final Verdict: Is the Bullet Pulley Worth It?
If you train in a garage or home gym and miss cable exercises, the Bullet Pulley may be a great addition to your gym. It will never replace a full cable machine, but it will allow you to perform almost every exercise you can do on a cable machine.
It brought back seated rows, curls, triceps work, and more into my training without sacrificing space or breaking the bank. The small setup time is a fair tradeoff for what you get in return. I’ve had a great experience using it personally and with clients, and I’d confidently recommend it to anyone building out their home gym.
